It is 13 October, and Black Friday lands on Friday 27 November 2026. That is 45 days away. Most Australian Shopify stores will spend the first 40 of them thinking about it and the last five panicking about discount codes, courier cut-offs and a theme that was never tested on mobile.

The stores that win Black Friday are rarely the ones with the deepest discount. They are the ones that locked their dates, stock and offers early, so the sale weekend is just execution. This guide gives you every date that matters in Australia in 2026, the deadlines you need to work back from, and a run sheet you can copy into your own calendar today.

Every date below was checked against Click Frenzy’s own calendar, Australia Post, ShopBack and the Victorian Government’s small business guide. Where sources disagree or a date is still unconfirmed, I have said so.

Black Friday Australia 2026: the dates that matter

Black Friday is the headline, but the Australian sale season runs for roughly five weeks. Here is the calendar your customers are already planning around.

Two things to note. First, ShopBack’s guide expects the deepest discounts to land between 26 and 30 November, so Black Friday week is a build-up, not the main event. Second, some of these dates are flagged as flexible by the organisers. Re-check them in early November before you print anything.

What the Australian numbers say (and what they mean for you)

You do not need a forecast to know Black Friday matters. Last year’s data is clear:

The takeaway is not “discount more”. It is that your customers have already decided what they want and are waiting for a price. If your product is on their list, the sale is yours to lose through slow pages, a confusing offer, or a delivery promise you cannot keep. Australia Post also delivered over 111 million parcels in November and December last year, its busiest peak yet, so the carrier network is where most stores get caught.

The 45-day countdown: work backwards from 27 November

Here is the run sheet I give members. Every workstream finishes before the next one starts, which is the only way to avoid a Thursday-night scramble.

Your Black Friday run sheet: ten workstreams, each with a hard finish date before 27 November.

By Friday 30 October: lock your offers and your stock

Decide your offers, your margin floor per order, and which products are in or out. Then place your stock orders. Suppliers and 3PLs are slammed in November, so a purchase order placed on 5 November is a purchase order that arrives in December. If you use a 3PL, book inbound slots now and confirm their peak-period cut-offs in writing. Our demand seasonality guide shows how to size the order from last year’s sales curve.

By Friday 13 November: build everything

Creative, landing pages, email templates and ad variants should be finished two weeks before launch. This is also when you stage your theme and discounts (more on that below). Anything built after 13 November gets less testing, and untested is how a wrong discount code ends up live for 400 customers.

Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November: early access

Your best customers shop first. We cover how to build the list in our early access list playbook, but the short version is a dedicated VIP segment, a single link, and a 48-hour head start. Competitors like Amazon, The Good Guys and Kogan are expected to start around this window, so early access is also how you avoid being buried by them.

Monday 23 to Sunday 29 November: sale week

Run the sale in phases rather than one flat discount. Teaser, VIP early access, Black Friday launch, Cyber Sunday refresh, Cyber Monday last chance. Each phase gets its own email and its own ad creative. If you want the full three-month plan behind this, read our BFCM playbook.

Fulfilment deadlines: the dates that quietly decide your reviews

Black Friday orders are not the finish line. They are the start of a delivery promise you have to keep through December, and late parcels create refunds, chargebacks and one-star reviews that outlive the sale.

Shipping deadline tracker showing Australia Post Christmas 2026 last sending dates by destination
Australia Post last sending dates by destination, with a buffer built in for your own order cut-offs.

Australia Post’s published Christmas 2026 last sending dates for Parcel Post are around 21 to 22 December for most interstate and same-state parcels, 14 to 18 December for Western Australia, and 14 to 17 December for the Northern Territory. Express Post runs to about 23 December for most destinations, and over-the-counter items must be lodged by 2:30pm. (Australia Post’s own figures differ slightly between its chart and its text, so check the live page before you publish dates on your store.)

Do not publish those dates as your order cut-offs. Work back from them:

  1. Take Australia Post’s last sending date for the slowest destination you ship to.
  2. Subtract your 3PL’s processing time (usually 1 to 3 business days in peak).
  3. Subtract a buffer of 3 to 5 days for peak delays.
  4. Publish the result as your “order by” date, and show it on product pages, the cart and your announcement bar.

That is why Click Frenzy lists 1 to 6 December as its last shipping days window. Customers shopping the Black Friday sales are often buying gifts, and they will look for a delivery guarantee before they hit pay. Our Christmas cut-off playbook has the full messaging plan, including cart banners and a dispatch-day email.

Pick the offer before you pick the discount

The most expensive Black Friday mistake is announcing “30% off sitewide” before you know what that does to your margin. A 30% discount on a product with a 65% gross margin takes you down to roughly a 50% margin, but a 30% discount on a product with a 45% gross margin can leave you a few dollars a sale once shipping and payment fees are counted.

Offer margin check table showing profit per order for five Black Friday offers
Run every offer through a margin check. If profit per order falls below your floor, change the offer, not the floor.

Build a simple table like the one above. For each offer, list the normal price, discount, sale price, product cost, pick-and-pack and shipping, payment fees and profit per order. Then set a floor. A common floor is the amount you need to cover your average customer acquisition cost, because on Black Friday your ad costs rise too.

Offers that protect margin

Australian brands are already doing this. Morrison, the Australian fashion label, focuses its Black Friday on sell-through and brand integrity rather than heavy discounting, leaning on craftsmanship, personalised styling advice, premium packaging and free shipping (Australia Post). Myer extends its returns window so items bought in November and December can be returned until the end of January, which removes purchase hesitation without cutting a cent off the price.

One legal point: sale pricing in Australia must be genuine. If you inflate a “was” price to make a discount look bigger, you are exposed to ACCC action. Read our sale price compliance guide before you set a single compare-at price.

If you are not sure which part of your store is holding orders back before a big sales period, the Practice and Profit sections of the free More Orders Scorecard check exactly this in two minutes.

Stage it in Shopify so nothing is built on the day

Your tool here is Shopify itself. You do not need another app to run a clean Black Friday, but you do need a staging process. Here is the setup I recommend.

Step 1: Duplicate your live theme

In Shopify admin go to Online Store, Themes, click the three dots on your live theme and choose Duplicate. Name it “BF 2026”. Build your banners, homepage sections, collection headers and countdown in this copy, so your live store is never half-finished.

Step 2: Create discounts with start and end times

In Discounts, create each offer as an automatic discount or a code. Set the start date and time and the end date and time in Melbourne or Sydney time as appropriate, not “whenever I remember”. Add one discount per phase (early access, Black Friday, Cyber Monday) so you can see which one actually drove sales.

Step 3: Check combinations and limits

Under each discount, review Combinations and customer eligibility. The classic failure is a Black Friday discount stacking on top of a welcome code. Test five scenarios in a private browser window: new customer, returning customer, VIP, a bundle, and a single discounted item.

Step 4: Schedule the switch

Shopify Plus stores can use Launchpad, Shopify’s own app for scheduling price changes, inventory increases, theme changes and password-protecting the store before an event. If you are not on Plus, set a calendar reminder for the theme publish and rely on discount start times for the rest. Either way, do a dry run on Friday 20 November, not Thursday night.

Step 5: Make a rollback

Keep your pre-sale theme as an unpublished copy. If something breaks on Black Friday morning, you can publish it again in one click and be back to normal in under a minute.

Email and SMS: the timeline that actually sells

Because 74% of Australian shoppers save up for Black Friday, your list is your cheapest channel. Plan these sends now and schedule them in Klaviyo, Omnisend or whichever platform you use:

Limit sends to people who have not purchased once they buy. Nothing damages a Black Friday more than emailing a customer “last chance” an hour after they placed their order.

The compound effect: why this beats a bigger discount

Each piece above looks small. Together they change the weekend. Early stock means you are not out of your hero SKU on Saturday. A margin floor means a 20% sale makes profit, not just revenue. Staged discounts mean no pricing errors. Early access means your best customers spend before the competition even starts. A published delivery cut-off means fewer “where is my order” tickets in December.

Then the weekend flows into what happens next. The customers you win on Black Friday are your best new-customer cohort of the year, and the stores that follow up properly turn them into repeat buyers. Our post-peak retention guide covers the 30 days after Cyber Monday, which is where the profit from this weekend is actually made.
